He was born to merchant Fülöp Petschauer and Ilona Júlia Weisz in the Hild House at 36 Király Street. Between 1923 and 1925, he studied law. From 1925 to 1932, he worked as a bank clerk.
He was a member of the gold medal-winning Hungarian sabre team at both the 1928 Amsterdam and 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Individually, he won silver in Amsterdam and finished fifth in Los Angeles. At the European Championships, he won team gold in 1930 (Liège) and 1931 (Vienna). Individually, he earned silver medals in 1926 (Budapest) and 1930 (Liège), and bronze medals in 1925 (Oostende), 1929 (Naples), and 1931 (Vienna).
After retiring from competition, he worked as a journalist from 1933, primarily writing sports articles for Pesti Napló and Az Est, where he had his own column titled "Let’s Speak Honestly." He also occasionally contributed to Színházi Élet. He was a popular figure in interwar Budapest and also appeared as an actor and master of ceremonies.
